Why is insurance for your stored goods advisable?
Our storage facilities in Germany are equipped with comprehensive security measures such as video surveillance, access control systems and alarm systems. Nevertheless, unforeseen events can never be completely ruled out. For this reason, individual storage insurance is advisable for all tenants – regardless of whether you are storing personal belongings in Berlin or business equipment in Munich.
Since the value of stored items can vary significantly, we offer you a simple solution: the basic insurance from our partner DONAU Versicherung provides reliable basic protection. Alternatively, you can check whether your existing household insurance already covers stored goods – depending on the provider and policy, this may already be included.
When signing the rental agreement, we point out that we have no knowledge of the type or value of your stored belongings. Therefore, it is your responsibility to choose the appropriate insurance coverage. This ensures that your property is financially protected in the event of a claim.
What value of goods is covered by the storage unit insurance?
The basic insurance costs only € 8 per 4 weeks of rental and covers goods with a value of up to € 4,000. If you require higher coverage, you can easily increase the insured sum: for each additional € 1,000 of value, only € 1.50 extra is charged.
Please note that certain valuables cannot be insured, including:
- Cash
- Stamps
- Gold
- Silver
- Jewelry
Which damages are insured at MyPlace locations in Germany?
With the basic insurance provided by DONAU Versicherung, you are protected against the following risks:
- Fire: Damage caused by fire, lightning, explosion and their consequential damages.
- Burglary / Vandalism: Damage resulting from burglary or attempted burglary.
- Water damage from pipes: Water leakage from supply or drainage pipes of water, hot water or heating systems. (If the storage unit is below street level, items must be stored at least 12 cm above the floor.)
- Storm and weather damage: For example damage caused by storm, hail, snow load, landslide or falling rocks.
- Damage caused by rain and snow: Damage caused by rain, snow or meltwater inside the building is also insured, provided that the water entered through the roof, gutters or external drainage pipes.
